The story

Handmade leather boots from South Africa, founded by Laura Struik after leaving a commercial career in the Netherlands. ROF is Afrikaans for rough. The leather is South African and vegetable-tanned with plant tannins rather than chemicals, then sun-dried, and every pair is made by local craftsmen.

Objectives

Sell a handmade boot at a handmade price to buyers across two continents, without the ad account eating the margin.

Our approach

A boot that takes days to make cannot be sold on volume. The whole account is built around reaching fewer, better-matched people — which is why the click-through rate nearly tripled while the cost per click fell.

The results

Click-through rate rose 186% while cost per click fell 29%, held across more than two years.

  • Google click-through rate up 186%, cost per click down 29%, clicks up 26%.
  • Conversion and revenue tracking on Google registers for the first time under our management, so there is no earlier figure to compare it against.
  • Two years and three months in, and still on an improving trend.

"Cheaper clicks from a far better-matched audience, sustained for over two years."
